Healthy faces work as a balanced system. This system includes the jaws, joints, teeth, periodontium, lips, cheeks, and tongue. Each part of the system influences another. The way we breathe, speak, and chew influences skeletal growth. Unhealthy growth patterns can lead to future breakdown of the system early and late in life.
In this three day course we will:
Define a healthy system
Identify what contributes to unhealthy growth patterns we see every day in our practices
Learn how breathing habits and oral myofunctional disorders play a role in unhealthy growth patterns
Recognize unhealthy skeletal growth patterns including:
Crossbites
Gummy smiles
Deficient lower jaws
Deficient upper jaws
TMJ breakdown
Open bites
Learn treatment strategies for young and old patients with these various skeletal growth patterns
Treatment strategies will include early and late orthodontic intervention, TAD expanders, jaw surgery, and supporting therapies that move our patients towards health
